Klondike Solitaire Treasures

Klondike is the solitaire everyone means when they say solitaire. It shipped with Windows for two decades and it is still the most played card game in the world, which is remarkable for a game where roughly one deal in five cannot be won no matter how well you play. That fact is central to the appeal rather than a flaw in it. You are not guaranteed a solution, so finishing one is an actual result and not a formality. This version keeps the standard rules intact and adds a collection layer on top, but the game underneath is the one you already know.

The goal is to move all fifty-two cards onto the four foundation piles, each built from ace up to king in a single suit. Below them the tableau is built the other way: descending, and alternating red and black. You can move a single card or a correctly ordered run onto a card one rank higher of the opposite colour. Empty tableau columns can only be started with a king. Cards you cannot place yet come from the stock, which you turn over as needed.

Do not send cards to the foundations the moment they become eligible. A low card sitting in the tableau is often the only thing that lets you move a run later, and once it is on a foundation you cannot easily get it back. Prioritise turning over face-down cards above everything else — every hidden card is information you do not have, and the column with the most hidden cards is usually where the deal is won or lost. Think twice before emptying a column unless you have a king ready to fill it, because an empty column you cannot use is just a dead space. And when two moves look equal, take the one that exposes a new card.
