Sand Blocks

Sand Blocks takes the falling-block puzzle and replaces the blocks with sand. You drop a shape, it breaks apart into thousands of grains, and those grains flow, pile and settle according to physics rather than snapping to a grid. Clearing happens when a single colour of sand forms a continuous line across the board. That one change makes the game unpredictable in a way grid puzzles never are: sand pours into gaps you did not plan for, a pile shifts when you drop something next to it, and a line you were three grains short of can complete itself two moves later. You are not placing pieces so much as shaping a slope.

Drag and drop coloured block shapes onto the board. On landing each block collapses into sand that falls and settles naturally. When sand of one colour forms an unbroken line from one side to the other, that sand clears. Keep clearing to make room; the board filling up is how a run ends.

Think in slopes, not in rows. Sand runs downhill, so a pile dropped on an angle spreads sideways and can bridge a gap several columns away — which is either exactly what you wanted or the thing that ruins a line. Build a colour along the bottom first, where sand has nowhere further to fall and stays where you put it. Avoid dropping a different colour on top of a nearly complete line; it will settle into the gaps you were about to fill. And when the board is getting high, drop into the lowest valley rather than the flattest area, because that is where sand has room to spread without raising the stack.
